The Power Up Electricity Museum delivers an immersive learning experience that the whole family can enjoy. Exploring the development and impact of electricity in Western Australia, you’ll discover stimulating displays and people-powered activities that spark everyone’s curiosity. From the first light bulb to the future of solar energy, you’ll be switched on at Power Up.

In a building shared by the Manjimup Visitor Centre and Park Café, it’s the perfect place to stop, discover something new and begin your Southern Forests adventure.

The museum is the new re-imagined home of the former World of Energy collection and features some of Western Australia’s first generating sets, examples of early electric vehicles and a range of early electrical domestic appliances.

The collection has adopted by many volunteers from the region who conserve and preserve the objects to ensure they can be enjoyed by future generations. Interested in volunteering with the collection? Contact the Shire’s Community Services team on 9771 7777.

It is recommended you arrive an hour before the nominated closing time to ensure you have enough time to fully experience the Power Up Museum.

Power Up Electricity Museum is located in the Manjimup Heritage Park in a shared building with the Manjimup Visitor Centre and Park Café.

Power Up is fully accessible by wheelchair.

Power Up is fitted with a hearing loop system. For those with difficulty hearing a device can be hired for free that can either integrate into personal hearing aids or to a handheld speaker to better assist with hearing in the museum.

Before entering the museum there is a large foyer with seating and access to toilets. Upon entering the museum there is a dark space with feature lighting and changing visuals. Occasional noise and light changes may be overwhelming to a particularly sensitive visitor, however there are more open spaces as you walk through the exhibition where there are less changes in audio and visuals.

There is a children’s area, Bright Sparks, in the corner of the exhibition that provides reading nooks for children (and their parents/guardians) to escape, along with a supply or books and games.

Outside the museum is a large grassed area and playground. Visitors are welcome to leave the museum if they need a break and come back when they are ready to explore some more that day.

The museum offers child size noise cancelling headphones upon request at reception. These are available to borrow, free of charge.
